The Opening of Centrair

Chubu Centrair International Airport (Centrair) opened on Feb.17 2005, one month before the opening of the 2005 World Exposition in Aichi.

The Central or Chubu region is one of the major economic regions in Japan with a population of approximately 22 million, accounting for about 18% of GDP of Japan.

Since numerous world-leading companies and production bases were located in this region, air transport demands for passenger and cargo has been rapidly increasing. With this background, Centrair was built corresponding to strong demands of local people and companies that had been longed for 24-hour operated airport with large cargo space and a runway for long-haul aircraft.

Centrair was founded and managed by Central Japan International Airport Co., Ltd., and 50 % of its stock is owned by a private sector.

Centrair serves as a hub airport in Japan and connects the Chubu region to the world. At Centrair, domestic and international terminals are located in the same building, which allowed passengers to reach easy access to both terminals. Also, many domestic flights are available from Centrair.
