The ASEAN-Japan Tourism Ministers’ Special Dialogue

The Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) hosted the ASEAN-Japan Tourism Ministers' Special Dialogue in Tokyo from October 27 (Fri.) to 29 (Sun.), 2023. At the dialogue, discussions were held under the theme of“The Next 50 Years with ASEAN and Japan: Designing the Path to Sustainable Tourism Together”, and the Joint Media Statement of the ASEAN-Japan Tourism Ministers’ Special Dialogue was adopted.

Summary of the Special Dialogue

・The ASEAN-Japan Tourism Ministers’ Special Dialogue was held to share the efforts of ASEAN and Japan on solutions to issues and to discuss the direction of their joint efforts, in light of the challenges facing the ASEAN-Japan region, such as the realization of sustainable tourism to enhance regional sustainability by creating a virtuous cycle of economy, society, and environment in local communities, and mutual exchanges to promote international mutual understanding and contribute to peace and prosperity in the international community.
・Based on the discussions at the Special Dialogue, the Joint Media Statement of the ASEAN-Japan Tourism Ministers’ Special Dialogue was released.
 

Bilateral Meetings

・Minister Saito had bilateral talks with the following ASEAN ministers and representatives of international organizations who attended the ASEAN-Japan Tourism Ministers’ Special Dialogue, exchanged views on the promotion of tourism exchanges and cooperation in the tourism sector, and confirmed the desire to deepen cooperative relations constructively.
・In addition, Senior Vice-Minister Doko had a bilateral meeting with the ASEAN-Japan Centre and exchanged views on sustainable tourism initiatives in ASEAN-Japan and on the further promotion of tourism exchanges in the future.
