Japan is located in a natural environment prone to many disasters, and has a long history of natural disasters such as earthquakes, typhoons, and heavy rains. Crisis management in the tourism field is recognized as a universal issue. It is an urgent task to disseminate know-how and knowledge on disaster preparedness, measures for ensuring the safety of tourists in the event of a crisis, and measures for recovery from a crisis to countries around the world and each region of Japan.

With this in mind, the Japan Tourism Agency, together with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)  Regional Support Office for Asia and the Pacific in Japan, will hold the "Raising Awareness of Tourism Crisis Management – Sharing case studies and communication plan" symposium online.
This symposium will help local governments, DMOs, and tourism operators to deepen their understanding of tourism crisis management. In order to assist the formulation of policies, topics including "Guidelines for tourism crisis management planning and crisis response manual creation" and "Best practices for tourism crisis management of Australia and Japan" will be covered.
Also, discussions on tourism crisis management communication, including the collection and dissemination of information, will be held with local people actually working in tourism crisis management as well as experts.
We hope to see you at the symposium.
