G20 Tourism Ministerial Meeting adoption of Ministerial Communique

On May 4 (Tue.), Mr. KOBAYASHI Shigeki, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism attended the G20 Tourism Ministerial Meeting (held online). Discussions at the Meeting centered on the sustainable and resilient recovery of the tourism industry, which has been seriously hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, and participants endorsed a “G20 Tourism Ministers Meeting Rome Communique” as well as the “G20 Rome Guidelines for the Future of Tourism”.

Parliamentary Vice-Minister KOBAYASHI made a keynote statement on cultural tourism on behalf of the participating countries, emphasizing the importance of using cultural resources as tourism resources and linking public and private sectors in regional revitalization. In addition to supporting the Declaration and Guidelines, Kobayashi stated that Japan would utilize the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games as an opportunity to publicize information regarding attractive areas of the country.
