Information on the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake:JNTO provides earthquake and related information for foreign visitors to Japan.

1.Information provision by website and by the Tourist Information Center (TIC) of JNTO  

The global site of the Japan Tourism Agency (JNTO) has been disseminating information in English on major earthquakes and on air, rail and expressway networks, in addition to giving links to relevant transport companies (http://www.jnto.go.jp/eq/kumamoto.html).

 The JNTO Tourist Information Center (TIC) (Phone: 03-3201-3331) in Yurakucho, Tokyo, is responding to telephone inquiries in Japanese , English, Chinese and Korean in 24 hours.


2.“Safety tips”: a push-enabled information alert app for foreign tourists 

For overseas visitors, the Japan Tourism Agency (JNTO) offers a free, push enabled application “Safety tips” that gives earthquake early warning (EEW) alerts in five languages (Japanese, English, simplified Chinese and traditional Chinese and Korean).

Download the free app to your smartphone and tablet-type device, and you can access information on evacuation advisories, weather alerts explanations, and “communication cards” for obtaining information from those around you in the event of disaster. Safety tips can be download at http://www.jnto.go.jp/eq/kumamoto.html (the global site of the JNTO).
