Travel and Tourism Consumption Trend Survey Annual Value for 2017 (confirmed)

This is a summary of the survey results of the Travel and Tourism Consumption Trend Survey Annual Value for 2017 (confirmed)

~ Domestic travel expenditure in 2017 increased by 0.8% to 21.113 trillion yen ~

--Travel consumption by Japanese domestic travelers in 2017 was 21.113 trillion yen (a year-on-year increase of 0.8%). Within that, 16.0798 trillion yen was spent on overnight travel (a year-on-year increase of 0.3%) and 5.0332 trillion yen was spent on day trips (a year-on-year increase of 2.3%).

 

--The total number of Japanese domestic travelers was 647.51 million (a year on year increase of 1.0%). Within that, the number of overnight travelers was 323.33 million people (a year-on-year decrease of 0.7%) and the number of day travelers was 324.18 million people (a year-on-year increase of 2.8%).

 

--The average travel expenditure per Japanese domestic traveler for overnight travel was 49,732 yen (a year-on-year increase of 1.0%) and for day trips it was 15,526 yen (a year-on-year decrease of 0.5%).
