Travel and Tourism Consumption Trend Survey, January-March 2016 (preliminary report)

This a summary of the results of the Travel and Tourism Consumption Trend Survey for
January-March 2016 (preliminary report).

 

1. Japanese domestic travel consumption

--Japanese domestic travel consumption was 4.2990 trillion yen, a decrease of 3.2% from the same quarter of the previous year.
 
--Within that:
 -3.2182 trillion yen was from overnight travel, a decrease of 6.6% from the same quarter of the previous year, and
 -1.0808 trillion yen was from day trips, an increase of 8.7% from the same quarter of the previous year.

2. Total number of Japanese travelers

--The total number of Japanese travelers was 138.28 million (an increase of 4.2% from the same quarter of the previous year).

--Within that number:
  -70.44 million people made overnight trips (an increase of 1.5% from the same quarter of the previous year) and
  -67.84 million people made day trips (an increase of 7.2% from the same quarter of the previous year).
