1. Total number of overnight guests
--In August 2016, the total number of overnight guests was 55.13 million, a decrease of 2.3% from the same month of the previous year. In September 2016, the total number of overnight guests was 41.84 million, a decrease of 5.0% from the same month of the previous year.
--The total number of Japanese overnight guests for August 2016 was down 2.1% from the same month of the previous year and for September 2016 the numbers were down 6.2% from the same month of the previous year.
--The total number of international overnight guests for August 2016 was down 3.6% from the same month of the previous year, the first time in 43 months there was a decrease compared with the same month of the previous year
--For September 2016, the numbers were up 5.0% from the same month of the previous year.
--The total number of overnight guests in the Kyushu area was down 18.4% in May, down 7.7% in June, down 2.8% in July and down 4.8% in August.
--The total number of Japanese overnight guests for August 2016 was down 2.1% from the same month of the previous year and for September 2016 the numbers were down 6.2% from the same month of the previous year.

2. Room occupancy rates
--The overall room occupancy rate for August 2016 was 68.8%.
The overall rate for September 2016 was 62.7%.
--In the prefectures which had room occupancy rates of over 80%, city hotels had the highest rates in 19 prefectures (August 2015: 25), business hotels in 19 (August 2015: 22) and resort hotels in 10 (December 2015: 10).
--Particularly, in Osaka prefecture, the resort hotel occupancy rate was 95.0%, the highest nationwide. The occupancy rates of city hotels at 92.1% and business hotels at 88.0% continued to be high.
In Kyoto prefecture, the city hotel room occupancy rate was 92.7% and the business hotel rate was 88.2%, the highest rates nationwide.
--In the Kyushu area, there was an increase from the same month the previous year in five prefectures: Fukuoka, Saga, Kumamoto, Oita, and Kagoshima and the overall room occupancy rate in the Kyushu area was 64.5%, a 0.3% increase from the same month of the previous year.
The overall rate for September 2016 was 62.7%.
